Are you fond of nature and yet not very keen on roughing it out? That should be a problem because to be with the nature all the time, you have to learn to endure heat and cold, rain and shine with equal ease. However, if your outdoor activities are confined to your patio, there is help at hand. Get an outdoor patio heater for your home and enjoy the nature at full blast. It will keep you warm and cozy within a radius of 15′ to 20′ even when the mercury is dipping steadily.

All summer you have worked hard to make your patio look beautiful. You have spent many lovely hours beneath the outdoor umbrella you have so enthusiastically bought. You have new patio chaises and tables as well. All will be in vain if you do not get an outdoor patio heater now. Staying out of doors without any heating facility now will amount to committing hara-kiri. Ok, I am exaggerating, but you sure will be inviting pneumonia that way.

Look for outdoor heaters in the patios of your friends and relatives. Most of them will have one. Talk to them about the advantages and disadvantages of different models Search the internet for different models as well. Choose one after much deliberation. One does not buy an outdoor patio heater everyday. It must not only fit your budget, but your life style as well. There are three basic types of such heaters. One that uses natural gas like LPG or propane are said to be most eco friendly while those that uses grid electricity must be most convenient to use. A chimenea uses wood as fuel. Each type has various models. Take note of all the pros and cons of each. Here are some of the points that you must take note of before buying one:

1. First, decide if you want a permanent structure or would rather do with a portable heater. Both of them are equally convenient, but you can take a portable outdoor heater to the far end of your yard, where the children are playing with mud or where you would like to sit right now, because you can see the migrating birds better from here. You cannot move the ones that have been installed in a particular position for the obvious reason. These are convenient if you have a particular area in mind that you would want to heat. The wall or ceiling mounted outdoor heaters does not take up any space at all.

2. Read the user manuals carefully before installing the heater. Wrong installation can be potentially dangerous! So is mishandling!

3. If you are installing the heater permanently, choose the position carefully. Put it up against a wall or some sort of structure, so that wind cannot divert the heat waves away from you. Place the temporary outdoor patio heaters likewise to get the maximum output.

To be frank, such a wide variety makes it harder to choose. You can find heaters with different designs, each beautiful in its own way and each has a special feature that can serve a special purpose. Prices vary according to the design, material used and goodwill of the manufacturer. It is important that you analyse your need first. Then try to fix up a budget and try to stick to it. It is essential to do so or you will be swept away by the choice and spend more than you really planned to do.

Therefore, find out what exactly you want. Look at all the available models as well and find the one that matches your need most. All the heaters more or less raise the temperature by 15 to 25 degree F with in a radius of 15′ to 20′. Yet, if you look carefully, you will find some that will stand out from the rest. They will have one or two added features that will make it more attractive. There is a palm tree shaped heater, which provides a 25 ft circle of warmth when you need it. It can also waft off a cool mist from its copper-coated palm leaves to cool your hot summer days.

That is why it is important to look around. You can do that by surfing the net or by visiting each shop that sells that outdoor patio heater. Nonetheless, do that before you decide on one.

When it comes to heating water, there are several different ways to go. The most popular of water heaters are surely hot water gas heaters. This type of heater is the most economical. However, modern technology offers several other options for heating water. Electric and solar heaters are popular on the market. But most people still prefer good old gas water heaters. Is there a reason for it? What are the advantages and disadvantages of gas heaters compared to other types?

Other types of water heaters

Hot water gas heater is not your only option. There are several other heaters, you can use where gas supply is not readily available. For example electric water heater is in high demand and many people prefer electric to gas. However, gas water heaters are still the most popular and majority of people who buy heaters, buy gas water heaters.

Instant hot water heaters

A recent invention is a tankless water heater. This type of heater brings you hot water the moment you turn the tap on. As the name suggests tankless heaters have no storage tank for water, they heat it as you use it. They are also called instant heaters. This is very much appreciated by many people because now they can take bath anytime without having to worry of switching on the geyser 20-30 minutes ahead of time. Also if many people take a shower one after the other, an instant water heater is a great advantage – you will not run out of hot water.

Solar water heaters

Solar water heaters are also a great advance in technology. With light capturing panels installed on your roof, solar heaters use the sun as an energy source. So in theory, solar heater is free all together, apart from the initial installation cost. However, the initial cost is very high. And also if there are several cloudy days, your solar water heater stops working.

And still most people prefer gas water heaters, because it is simple and also economical. It is really much cheaper than any of the electric or solar heaters, including tankless varieties.

Gas water heater disadvantages

There are some drawbacks to gas hot water heaters. First, compared to electric heaters they are slow. Second, you can only use natural gas heater where there is gas supply. But on the bright side, if you want your water cooler, you can turn gas heater down straight away, and get the exact temperature you like.

Home heating systems can be of two basic types. You can either set up a central heating system, or you can fix a heater in each room. It is your call. Operating each of these two types will be different. In the case of the central heating system, you will not have to do too much work. All that you would have to do is change the intensity of the heat by the simple turn of a knob.

The second kind of heating system can be quite tedious. In this case, you will also have to maintain all the heaters that are situated in each of the rooms. The central system is simpler to maintain. You could use a boiler or a furnace, which could be situated below your building. By pumping warm air through the air ducts, you will be able to heat up your entire home. You could also have room radiators installed. This can make use of heated water which would heat up the house.

There will be thermostats which can control the heat levels in your house. With these controls, you can adjust the heat at your home. If the homes are without a central heating system, you could have floor heaters or baseboard heaters, which run on electric current.

The heating systems which you decide to install in your home will have to be of the right size. After all, you are seeking to heat up your entire home. The unit should not be oversized. An oversized unit would lead to overheating at times when the weather is not too cold. You would also need to check to see how much heat is being lost through the walls and windows of your home. Then you will be able to determine the size for the heating system that you should install. The system should be able to handle the heat load. After all, you should not face a breakdown in the middle of severe cold weather. You will also need to look for something that is cost effective and of high quality.

The next step that you will need to take is to calculate how much energy you will be consuming every month. If your consumption levels seem too high, you could choose to heat only the main rooms in which you would need the most heat. This would help you to save energy. You could use radiant elements which could be installed on the roof. In such a case, blowers would not be required.

Radiant heating is also possible through pipes. These pipes would be instrumental in running hot water under the floorboards. Radiant heating units could also be used on the ceilings, depending on how warm you want to keep your home. There are also space heaters which operate with the help of kerosene or gas. These can be used as and when required to heat up a specific space. All that you would require in such a case would a place on your wall.

Understanding various systems for heating the home is very important. This is a must before you go about installing one in your home.

During the cold winter months, many homeowners and renters turn to efficient and easy-to-use space heaters to provide supplemental heat, heat rooms that are normally not heated, and provide warmth when the power goes out. While these space heaters can provide many hours of comfort, there are some dangers that everyone needs to be aware of. Using space heaters safely is not difficult, but it is important to gather the knowledge needed to avoid common problems with these appliances.

Some of the most critical tips for keeping the home and family safe when space heaters are in use include:

Make sure that all space heaters are placed a minimum of three feet from anything that could be flammable

Never lay clothes or any other materials on top of a space heater. It can be tempting to dry clothes, socks or shoes near a space heater, but those materials could easily catch fire.

Never use space heaters for anything other than providing supplemental heat. Using space heaters to cook food, thaw frozen water pipes or any other purpose for which they are not intended is dangerous.

Use only the proper fuel for fuel burning space heater. Kerosene heaters are designed to burn only kerosene, not any other kind of fuel.

Turn off all space heaters when the room is empty, and turn off all space heaters before going to bed for the night.

Pets and children should be carefully supervised around space heaters. These appliances get very hot, and children or pets can easily be burned severely.

Carefully check all electric space heaters or signs of frayed wires, broken wires, overheating or frayed insulation. If any problems are found the heater should not be used until the problem has been fixed by a professional.

When buying a new space heater, be sure to look for built in safety features such as heating element guards and automatic shutoff features.

When adding fuel to a fuel powered space heater, always allow the heater to cool completely before adding additional fuel. If any fuel is spilled, be sure to wipe it up thoroughly and immediately.

If considering a kerosene heater, be sure to check with the local fire company first. Many municipalities do not allow such heaters in their communities.

Try to avoid using an extension cord with a electric space heater. If such a cord must be used, be sure to choose an industrial strength cord and make sure you use the right gauge size for the heater.

These tips, along with the user guide and instructions that will accompany any heater you buy will ensure that you keep your family and your home safe.
