Whole House Water Purification – 7 Great Reasons To Install This System In Your Home

Published by San Antonio Decorator under Plumbing

Think whole house water purification is a waste of money?

It’s unbelievable what is being found in America’s tap water. Researchers from the U.S. EPA have found serious contaminants in many water samples taken across the country.

#1 – The Environmental Working Group reported that weed killers and many different pesticides were found in the tap water of 28 out of 29 cities tested. These chemicals were at levels that present serious health risks. They estimate that 45,000 babies in these cities drank infant formula reconstituted with contaminated tap water.

#2 – A USA Today-Special Report examined 3,000 of the largest city utilities and found that 65 of them are manipulating the results of tests used to detect lead in water, violating federal law and putting millions of Americans at risk.

Visit http://www.epa.gov/safewater/dwinfo/index.html to find out what’s in your city’s water.

#3 – “There’s no telling precisely how many Americans get sick each year from drinking bad water… I would say that the cases we learn about are the tip of the iceberg.” (Waterborne Disease Expert, CDC)

#4 – According to the EPA, lead is the number-one environmental health threat to our children, causing severe physical and mental developmental delays.

#5 – The U.S. Council of Environmental Quality warns that “Cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is as much as 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine.” It is not uncommon to find more chlorine in tap water than is recommended safe for a swimming pool.

If someone in your family already has cancer or another disease, it’s even more important to use whole house water purification. Why put an extra toxic load of chlorine on someone who is already ill?

#6 – There have been outbreaks in city water supplies of chlorine-resistant parasites like Cryptosporidium and Giardia. This intestinal parasite causes flu-like symptoms, and can be fatal to persons with impaired immune systems, including children and the elderly.

The Natural Resources Defense Council claims that more than 45 million Americans drink and bathe in municipally-treated water where these dangerous parasites are found. In Milwaukee recently, more than 100 people died and 400,000 became sick in less than a month. With a superior whole house water filter system, your family can be spared from this sort of tragedy.

#7 – Nobody knows how many toxic elements may actually be in tap water. According to the Ralph Nader Research Group, more than 2,100 toxic chemicals have already been detected in U.S. water supplies. Virtually all public water systems have some level of contamination.

Early in the twentieth century, before we had this host of chemical compounds in our environment, 1 in 50 people could expect to get cancer in his or her lifetime. Today, half of all Americans are expected to become cancer statistics.

There is no such thing as new water; Mother Nature just keeps reusing and recycling the same contaminated water over and over. Our water treatment plants are not designed to remove these man-made chemicals. We have learned the hard way that any chemical we use will eventually wind up in our household water.

Without waiting for a conclusion on the actual effects of drinking and bathing in this cocktail of contamination, we can assume that it will be negative. The only question is how negative… and why wait?

A whole house water purification system is the easiest, most effective and most economical way to have safe, healthy water for you and your family.

Why Reverse Osmosis Water Filtration Systems Do Not Get The Job Done

Published by San Antonio Decorator under Plumbing

Reverse Osmosis Units work to a certain degree but do not provide us with the healthy living that we need for a long and happy life. Why would a system supposedly good for your body, not perform as it should? That is what we plan to show you in this article. Reverse Osmosis water filtration systems do not live up to their promise.

Reverse Osmosis units work fine if properly maintained at all times and you have an endless supply of water at your disposal. They use at least 3-4 gallons of water for every gallon they clean and filter for you.

Reverse osmosis water filtration systems work by forcing large amounts of water under high pressure through a porous membrane. The membranes need to be cleaned or replaced quite often for the unit to perform at its peak.

There is too much wastage of water that is in short supply these days. If you forget to change the membrane in time or if it becomes damaged the reverse osmosis units will not work as they should and will end up wasting even more water than normal. The original wastage being bad enough, why would you want more?

Another fact about reverse osmosis units is that they take a long time to filter the water. It takes, in general, about 3-4 hours to filter one gallon of water. It’s a very inefficient process for the home.

Another problem with reverse osmosis water filtration systems is that they remove much more than they should, leaving your water nearly mineral free. Some minerals are good for our bodies. If all of them are removed it can hurt us more than helping our bodies stay healthy.

Reverse Osmosis units came into existence when the Printing industry needed water that was free of minerals for their use. Your body works slightly differently than that. It is not a machine like the printing industry uses. It needs minerals. And to take something from an industrial application to home use is not the best thing to do.

So, reverse osmosis water filtration systems remove the minerals, but cannot filter out all pesticides. Only those heavier than water molecules will be removed. What it means for you is that most pesticides still go into your body and that is not what you want.

Reverse osmosis units were once a very popular option for people who were just getting into water filtration. A very good sales pitch was responsible for their popularity. However, a sales pitch can only last for a short time if the product does not back up the claims.

The water from reverse osmosis water filtration systems is equivalent to taking distilled water and adding pesticides to it. Would you want to drink it?

In a nutshell, reverse osmosis water filtration systems are not good for your health, since they take out what they should not, and leave in what should be removed. In nearly all cases, reverse osmosis units are not the right choice for home use.

How Do Wellness Shower Filters Compare With Chlorine Removing Shower Filters?

Published by San Antonio Decorator under Plumbing

If you’ve been searching for a shower head or whole house water filter, you’ve no doubt come across Wellness shower filters. If you’ve dug further, you’ve found Wellness enterprises produces top quality full featured whole house and chlorine removing shower filters. You’ll also notice that they are two to three times more expensive than any equal quality full featured water filter.

The reason for the price difference is unique, to say the least. Wellness enterprises use a Japanese variant of filter design created for their Olympic swim team. The design, beyond standard filtration systems used in most chlorine removing shower filters, is centered on running water past rare volcanic Japanese rocks.

Wellness shower filters claim these rocks imbue (red flag) water with anti-bacterial properties and alter water’s pH level, just by coming into contact with the stones. It’s an interesting idea, but the scientific basis is just not there.

There are many excellent chemical and chlorine removing shower filters on the market. Their designs are technologically advance and supported by scientific data. Most of the better chemical and chlorine removing shower filters provide certified performance data. The best are certified by Underwriter’s Laboratory to remove 99.99% of the chlorine that comes through the tap.

But, in case you’re not convinced, let’s look a little more closely at the Wellness shower filters, because, if you judge by price, you might think they are the best. What about those rocks?

The first type Wellness shower Filters Company refers to is Bakuhan™. The Japanese refer to it as Bakuhan-seki and geologists refer to it as quartz porphyry. Scientific studies have been conducted using this mineral as a soil additive with favorable results.

The studies found that due to the mineral’s highly porous nature, soil treated with it retained higher levels of magnesium and calcium than otherwise possible and thusly soybean yield was increased. A bonus for the soybean industry, but we are talking about chemical and chlorine removing shower filters. The problem arises when you realize retaining minerals and nutrients is counter-productive when it comes to filtering water.

Many of us have “hard” water. The mineral content is too high or poorly balanced. So, we choose to invest in chlorine removing shower filters, because the advertisements claim that they will improve or “enhance” the mineral content of the water. The best choice, and least expensive by the way, is ion exchange. Hard minerals are “exchanged” for softer minerals. Water feels better. Cleansers perform better.

The second type of stone used in Wellness shower filters is referred to simply as Taicho™. In Japanese, this basically means “wellness.” You can’t fault them for being clever. Wellness Enterprises claims this rare igneous (or volcanic) rock emits far infrared light that kills bacteria and causes any water exposed to the far infrared light to retain anti-bacterial properties. What they don’t bother mentioning is everything emits far infrared light and the radiation is far too weak to kill or change anything.

There are many great, let me reemphasize “great”, chemical and chlorine removing shower filters on the market that balance both pH and mineral content, but Wellness shower filter cost two or three times as much as they do. The choice is yours.
