In periods of hot weather, everyone has its little trick to preserve some freshness inside the house: put a wet towel over the windows, place a bowl of ice in front of a fan…

But from a certain temperature, these tips are no longer sufficient, and we must move to more effective solutions.

Maybe you are reluctant to invest in a “heavy” air conditioning system, expensive and complicated to install? If so, I suggest you to take a look at portable air conditioners and window air conditioners.

Portable air conditioners are not simple fans: they are complete devices, able to regulate the temperature of a room by producing cool air. However they are not the “heavy” devices you can see in some buildings, and they do not have to be installed by a professional for an expensive price.

The two main types of devices you can install by yourself are:

Portable air conditioners:

These units consist of a single unit and have two advantages. First, their price: these air conditioners are among the cheapest types. And second, their mobility: since they are mounted on wheels, they can follow you in all parts of the house. Prices start below $300 for the lowest powers.

Window air conditioners:

These devices are fitted on a window opening. The part inside the house provides fresh air, and the part outside expels hot air. Contrary to what many people think, they are not difficult to install, and they come with all the needed accessories (mounting brackets, extensions to fill spaces, etc). Prices are similar to the portable versions.

Is an air conditioner only for the hot season?

Now, you may think that your air conditioning device won’t be useful during the winter. But this is usually not the case! First, many air conditioners combine several functions: air conditioning, but also ventilation, air filtration and dehumidification.

Many are also equipped with a “reversible” function: the simplest models can then be used during winter to provide some supplemental heating, while the higher range models can advantageously replace your heating system!

This will allow you to adjust the temperature, summer and winter, with a single installation. The big advantage is that, contrary to a typical electric heater, these devices can produce nearly 3 times more heating power than they consume, because they work by “pumping” thermal energy from the outside.

Finally, your air conditioner can also be used as a simple fan. This is a very economical way to handle the heat, and it works very well for a moderately hot weather.

I manage an online store specialized in portable air conditioner devices. I am happy to provide any free advice about your air conditioning needs.

The air source heat pump consists of three primary parts which include the heat exchanger that is responsible for the removal of heat, the compressor that elevates air temperature, and the heating tube or radiator which transfers the heat.

The heating or cooling of the air or water is caused by the refrigerant moving through a series of coils. The compressor then acts as a way by which the refrigerant is changed from a liquid to a gas form and then back to liquid. The refrigerant is then used in order to heat or cool a building. In its original form, refrigerant passes through the outer coils with the air source causing the liquid to boil and convert into gas. The gas passes into the compressor, where the temperature increases. After this, the gas goes through the coils in the condenser and the heat transfers to the air and the gas cools, once again making the substance a liquid. The resulting heat is released in order to heat the facility and the used refrigerant is then recycled. However, if cooling is the goal, the air source heat pumps act by pumping the cold refrigerant into the facility for the purpose of acting as a cooling unit.

There are numerous advantages to using air source heat pumps. The first of these benefits is that these pumps require about ¼ the electricity that a standard heater requires. This provides both environmental benefits as well as saves you significant amounts of money on utility bills. A second benefit is that the system does not require gas to function and, instead, relies solely on electricity. This makes the system much less dangerous for the user and for the building for which it is used. This system can be used in both heating and cooling of water as well as air. Therefore, the system is both useful during the summer and the winter months. Although the installation of the system is more costly than other systems, the air source heat pump typically pays for itself within a matter of a couple years. The operation costs are much less than the standard system, making it ideal. Air source heat pumps also require little maintenance and typically last for long periods of time. The average heat pump usually does not require replacement for 20 years of more.

Find out more about air source heat pumps online at Geothermal International

There is nothing cozier than relaxing in front of a fire on a cold day, and traditional fireplaces have a classic beauty and charm that appeals to many. However, traditional fireplaces are not the most efficient means to heat a home. Most of the heat in a wood-burning fireplace escapes from the chimney. A wood fireplace insert transforms your fireplace into an efficient heating mechanism for your home, much like a wood burning stove, while maintaining the traditional appearance of a grand fireplace.

A wood fireplace insert is essentially a wood burning stove that has been made to fit within an existing fireplace. The insert is encased by a steel shell with a glass front cover, which ensures that most of the heated air is returned to the room, rather than escaping into the masonry of the fireplace or through the chimney. A decorative faceplate helps the insert blend in with the appearance of the fireplace. When combined with a stainless steel chimney liner, a wood insert is efficient, reliable, and easy to clean and maintain. The key to an effective fireplace insert is proper installation, so make sure hire an experienced installer.

With a wood fireplace insert, your hearth need no longer be purely decorative. With the insert installed, your fireplace will be able to heat your room efficiently, keeping you warm and comfortable while lowering your heating bill. To get the most use and enjoyment out of your existing fireplace, have an insert and chimney liner installed this year.

Scott Clawson is the Director of Marketing for Craft Stove and Fireplace Center.

The furnaces can be divided into four categories -.house hold, industrial, metallurgical, and incinerating. The household furnaces are designed to be installed inside or outside the homes and are mainly used to heat water and keep the homes warm in winter times. Usually, fuels like natural gas, coals, water, and wood are used to run the domestic furnaces.

Gas Furnaces: These days, gas furnaces are the most preferred form of household. These are fueled by natural gas, which can be purchased from a local company. The natural gas is more efficient and more clean burning than most of the other domestic fuels. Generally, gases like liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), biogas, and methane gas are used to fire a gas furnace.

The gases are equipped with an igniter and a thermostat, which senses the room temperature. When the thermostat records a temperature below the programmed temperature, the igniter will turn on and then the furnace will start to burn the gas. The resultant air will be distributed throughout the house by a duct system. In some gas furnaces, especially in the old ones, the gas is lighted by a pilot light. Most of the newer gas furnaces use an electric spark to ignite the gas.

Oil Furnaces: Many homeowners prefer to use oil furnaces for heating their homes. Oil is the most easily available natural resource whereas the other forms of furnace fuels are not so abundant. However, the oil furnaces are not as efficient as gas furnaces and require more electricity than the gas.

Most oil furnaces have a storage tank from which the oil can be piped into the combustion chamber of the furnace, where it will be atomized. In the oil furnaces, high-voltage electrodes are used to ignite the atomized fuel. The heat is then circulated throughout the house by a forced-air circulating fan.

Wood Furnaces: The wood furnaces use wood pellets or logs to generate heat. Both indoor and outdoor wood furnaces are available in the market. They use either hot water or forced air flow to produce and circulate the heat. Generally, the wood is cheaper than the other furnace fuels and naturally wood furnaces are cost effective than most of the other domestic furnaces. A wood furnace consists of many parts, including a cabinet, sealed firepot, blower, draft fan, thermostat, and a chimney.

All household furnaces, particularly the gas, oil, and wood furnaces, require to be periodically cleaned in order to maintain an efficient heating system. If not maintained properly, these furnaces may emit hazardous fumes. Hence, they should be regularly checked by an experienced professional, at least once in a year. The furnaces that have higher AFUE ratings are more efficient and require much less fuel..

Electric furnaces are also available in the market. The main advantages of electric furnaces are that they are safer than other domestic furnaces and do not produce carbon monoxide or any other hazardous fumes. However, these furnaces are very expensive and it may not be possible for everyone to install an electric furnace in their homes.

Now you have a much better overview on the different types available in the market, hope this helps your decision making.

Come see us at our website at trane furnace filters and get much more information on home furnace filters.

Properly maintained, Trane air conditioners will adequately cool your home for years. With just a little work and effort, yours should be able to sufficiently get you through the hot and sweaty summer months. Tranes are top of the line devices that come equipped with decent warranties but they still should be kept in good condition.

Unplug your Trane air conditioner periodically and carefully remove its outer cover. In most models, the filter is located in the back by the coils. Otherwise they’ll be fastened in the front. If it’s torn or damaged in any way it will need to be replaced.

Otherwise, take the air conditioner’s filter out and place it in a bowl or sink full of warm water. Let it soak and then scrub it gently with soap. Squeeze out as much water as you can and set the filter aside to let it air dry.

As the Trane’s filter is drying out, carefully wipe the rest of the device off. With a clean towel, clean both the outside cover and around the springs inside. Replace the completely dry filter and snap the air conditioner’s cover back into place.

Occasionally the device’s drainage system will need to be drained and flushed as well. The drain tube is located in the back of the air conditioner and can be easily removed. Run a long brush or wire through to tube to clear out any blockage that may have formed. To clean it further, pour a cup of diluted bleach through the tube as well before reattaching it.

In order to assure that your Trane air conditioners are working at full capacity, you’ll need to maintain them regularly. Checking their filters and drainage tube at least twice a year is a good idea. However, if you are experiencing problems with your air conditioning in your home or office, you may have to clean them out more often.

If you feel that the maintenance work on your Trane is too much for you, consider hiring a repairman to do it for you. It would be a good idea to replace the air filters in your home periodically as well as they can play a big part in the running of the machine. Having a professional periodically look at the device and clean it out regularly will ensure that the air conditioner is able to keep your house cool for many summers to come.

Trane air conditioners will meet the quality requirements of any consumer.

We tend to take our appliances for granted until they stop working. This is true for our air conditioning and heating systems as well that typically seem to fail on the hottest day of the summer or coldest day in the winter. Getting service in the middle of the season, the busiest for heating and air conditioning repair services, can take days while we suffer and regret that we didn’t have the systems checked out to avoid the discomfort and inconvenience.

Most air conditioning and heating system manufacturers recommend regular yearly maintenance to ensure that the systems are in good working order and performing at their maximum efficiency. It not only keeps them working but extends their life, helping to avoid expensive repairs or replacement earlier than necessary. Additionally, regular maintenance and cleaning will save costs on energy bills. It is estimated that a dirty evaporator, condenser, and blower can increase electrical usage by 50 percent or more resulting in an additional $30.00 or more a month on your energy bill.

Most heating and air conditioning repair services offer yearly maintenance contracts that save you money and give you the peace of mind of knowing that your systems are performing at their best. A maintenance contract also offers the added benefit of never having to remember to put the task of getting the maintenance done on your busy To Do list. The company will contact you when the service is due and arrange an appointment at your convenience. Typically, with a contract, the company will give you priority for service if there’s ever a problem. With regular maintenance, you can afford to take your systems for granted for the rest of the year.

Hammock’s Heating & Air ( http://www.hammockshvac.com/ ) provides the best air conditioning repair in Alpharetta has to offer for over 20 years.

If your air conditioner is not working properly, you may need to hire a repair person. However, you might also find that you need to replace it altogether, in which case you can simply purchase a new one and install it on your own. Find out the steps to take for air conditioning installation before you attempt it. Note that these instructions apply to the type of system you would attach to a window, not the central cooling kind.

The first step after realizing that you need to replace your system is to select a new one. The best way to do this is to determine how much of your home you need to cool with this machine, as there are various sizes available. You can choose yours once you have measured the amount of space you need to cool. You also need to measure the windowsill that it will sit in so that it fits perfectly.

Your system should come with some mounting brackets, which will help keep it in place. You should be able to easily slide the box into the window opening and then secure it with the brackets. Then you can lower the window to the level of the box, followed by taking the extensions on both sides of the unit and securing them to the frame of the window.

Your air conditioning installation is almost complete. Your unit should come with a bit of foam insulation that is used for sealing the area between the window and the top of the box. Many units also come with a hose for drainage, which is meant to be attached to the exterior of the box. As long as you first make sure that the area around the unit is sealed so that cool air stays in, your air conditioning installation has been a success and you are now ready to use the new system.

Whether your old unit is broken and needs to be replaced completely, or you have never had one before and are ready to cool your house down, these tips should be helpful. You do not have to have the skills of a handyman to perform this task, but if you are unsure even after reading the directions, have a friend help you complete the job. This way, it should not take very long. Soon enough, you will be able to relax and enjoy a house that is cooler than ever.

When looking for air conditioning installation in Fremont, there are many excellent choices available.

A heated interior is important if you want to escape the vagaries of inclement weather. It becomes easier to go about your daily work once you don’t have to waste all your energy in keeping warm. However, there are some essentials that you need to consider while trying to heat your home. One of the most crucial things that you need to ensure is having a proper underfloor heating system.

But what exactly is a heating system that you put under your floor? And how does it help? The heat is actually controlled by the process of thermal radiation as well as thermal conduction. There are a number of heating systems that are available in lands that face extreme winter conditions. The most well-known of them are:-

Hot Water Heating Systems

Electric Underfloor Heating System

Having the right kind of under floor heating insulation is important too. The proper insulating materials will help to trap the heat within your home thus helping you to save on the costs in the long run. Maintenance of the system is comparatively simpler too and you will enable you to keep your expense within control as well.

Insulation of the loft is an aspect that you have to pay attention to. Letting the heat escape out into the atmosphere will only let it go waste. The main objective of having an efficient under floor heating is to prevent the heat from moving towards the earth as well. Here is where the heating device makes use of the principles of Physics. We all know that heat flows from a hotter to a colder body. Therefore a colder ground under the floor heating will definitely have the heat flowing towards it. A proper insulation, on the hand, helps in preventing this loss by redirecting the heated air to the other parts of the room thus saving on precious heat.

It is also important to take note of the condition in your home before you decide to install an under floor system for heating. Take care to seal off all the cracks and gaps that can minimize the heating system. The spaces between the various fittings need to be checked as well. Windows that are doubly glazed work best in trapping the heat indoors. Cavity walls can also be insulated in order to maximize the effect of the under floor systems that help in heating the interiors.

However, it is not possible to have a common solution to all your heating problems. The type of insulation varies for different types of floors too. A backer board or a mat becomes essential if you are thinking of putting a heating system under your tiled floor. It is, therefore, imperative to consult a professional before you initiate the process of putting an under floor heating system.

For more information on underfloor heating, check out the info available online; these will help you learn to find the under floor heating!

There are several common misconceptions regarding heating oil plans. As a result of complicated and confusing pricing agreements or contracts, every year a group of consumers feels cheated and consequently, angry with their oil company. Below is a list of the some of the most common misconceptions.

1. When the market price drops below your fixed cost the oil company is making a big profit. A reputable oil company pre-buys their heating oil at a fixed cost from their wholesale supplier so they can honor their commitments to their customers through the season. Therefore, even if the market price drops below the fixed price, the heating oil company is committed to their contracted cost to the wholesaler, just as the customer is committed to the heating oil company.

2. The oil company has the inside scoop on the price of oil. There are many factors that impact the cost of oil including global demand, available inventory, Wall Street speculators, the value of the US dollar and the weather. These factors are unpredictable and importantly, uncontrollable. Therefore, it would be impossible for a heating oil company to predict the price of oil over time.

3. Fixed price is the same as cap. Fixed price contracts protect customers if the cost of oil goes up. Customers pay the price they locked in at when costs were lower. However, if the cost drops, fixed price is unfavorable because customers still must pay their locked-in price. Cap plans allow customers to protect themselves in this second scenario. Cap customers will benefit if the cost goes up based on their locked-in price, but if the cost drops they will get the benefit of the lower price.

4. Gallons contracted determine how much oil the company owes you at a certain price. In heating oil plans, customers will specify a set number of gallons at a locked-in price. The agreement also specifies a time period -typically the heating season. At the end of the heating season, on the exact date specified in the agreement, the oil company will begin charging its customers the variable rate for oil on the day of delivery even if the customer had gallons leftover.

5. Price protection plans usually net out favorably. In 2008, customers lost a great deal of money by signing up for price protection plans in the spring of that year. The price of oil was climbing quickly and people speculated that it would reach unforeseen peaks. Fixed price heating oil contracts averaged $4.85 per gallon. By the end of 2008 prices dropped to $2.00 per gallon meaning customers were paying an additional $2.85 per gallon than if they were buying at the variable rate. Looking at 2009, in the spring, once again prices began to climb and some homeowners decided to commit to a fixed price which was averaging $2.52 per gallon. Yet low priced heating oil dealers averaged $2.35 per gallon for the season which again would have yielded savings for customers.

Heating oil pricing plans are complex and often confusing, educating themselves on the common misconceptions can help homeowners make better financial decisions for the heating season.

Learn more about price protection contracts at http://www.clickfil.com Cindy Burke works for Clickfil a new type of heating oil company in the Boston area offering lower prices every day and the simple convenience of doing all your heating oil business online, when and where it’s convenient for you.

Very few home owners understand how a heating or cooling system work to provide a comfortable environment. Most home owners probably do not even care, until the system loses its effectiveness or fails completely. Depending upon the problem, the cost can be as little as $30 or as much as several thousand dollars.

There is little an individual can do to help maintain an air conditioner system. Almost all of the possible “fixes” a home owner can perform themselves will just cost a few dollars. Theses “fixes, however, fall under maintaining rather than outright repair. The few tasks involved are filter changes, visually inspection of the outside compressor unit, and proper landscaping.

Regular filter changes are one of the most important chores to perform and also one of the most inexpensive. Many times there is a second air filter at the heat pump or elsewhere in the system which is serviceable by the home owner. By routinely replacing a dirty filter with a new one, the home owner allows the HVAC system to operate without straining to pull air through a clogged filter. HEPA type filters have been standard use and fairly inexpensive per unit. Many professionals may recommend the use of a reusable electrostatic filter. These filters are washable and can last much longer than most other types of filters, thereby saving money.

Visually inspecting the compressor unit on the outside of the building can indicate a potential problem. one does not necessarily need to be a HVAC technician to recognize a problem. The first attribute to examine are the fins. The fins are thin metal flat strips resembling fine ridges. The purpose of these fins are to dissipate heat, much like the radiator does in a car. Should the fins be bent or flattened, airflow through the fins is restricted which in turn will prevent proper and effective heating and cooling of a home or business. Many home improvement stores sell fin combs which are used to straightened bent fins, however, if the fins are mashed enough or show other signs of wear or damage a professional technician should be called to inspect the unit.

A second visual inspection should be made regarding the placement and the way the compressor is mounted on the pad. If the unit is not in a level position, problems can occur. Should the outside unit shift, tubing connections can be damaged which may allow leakage of the refrigerant. Should this take place, the leak may or may not be noticeable immediately. Placement of this unit should be above any dips in the ground slope. If the compressor is allowed to sit in a puddle of water every time rain falls, a shortened lifespan can be expected.

The last thing a home owner can do, and of major importance, is to make sure the outside compressor unit is clear of any plant overgrowth or clutter. Too many times is an air conditioner compressor unit intentionally blocked and crowded by large shrubs or fencing sections in the home owner’s attempt to hide the unsightly unit. It is imperative to allow sufficient space on all sides of the HVAC unit in order for the proper and efficient operation of the outside equipment. By blocking or tightly concealing the compressor, the air flow is greatly restricted causing the HAVC system to work harder and longer. Not only will this shorten the life of the equipment, but raise the monthly utility bill. The unrestricted airflow is of prime importance.

There will come a time, though, when a repair technician or HVAC company will need to be called to service a home’s air conditioning and heating system. By following the few maintenance tips above, a home owner can be reasonably assured of having to call a HVAC company later rather than sooner.

Many websites provide additional information on the topic of air conditioning and heating.
