3 Tips for Decorating a Guest Bedroom
If it turns out that you have an extra room in your home, turning it into a guest bedroom can be a great way to help your guests feel right at home. Guest bedrooms are usually kept simple, but you can still choose to add some of your personal style to the room. By balancing simplicity with style, you’ll be able to make the room appealing to any guest who may stay in your home. If you’re unsure as to how to decorate your guest bedroom, then follow these simple décor tips.
Keep the Colors Neutral
In a guest bedroom, you should mostly stick to neutral colors, although it’s okay to add a pop of color here and there. Neutral colors will ultimately make the room more appealing to guests and can make their stay more comfortable. Even though neutral colors are dominating the room, you can still incorporate some colorful style with different décor items such as paintings, flowers, and pillows. You want your guest bedroom to be stylish, but try to keep it on the neutral side so that your guests aren’t frightened by red walls in the middle of the night.
Provide a Comfortable Sleeping Area
For some, a great option is to furnish their guest bedroom with their old furniture and an oak bed. You do want to be sure that the bed is still safe and stable, though. It might not be a bad idea to buy a new mattress, however, as you want to be able to provide a comfortable sleeping area for your guest that probably doesn’t include your 20-year-old mattress. By staining or painting your old bed a different color, you can better match it to the décor of the room. Another option is to find an inexpensive and simple bed that will not break your budget.
When you look for bedding for the guest bedroom, you don’t want to buy the cheapest sheets you can find. You should be able to find something in the middle that will be comfortable for your guests yet doesn’t cost that much money. A basic cotton sheet set, along with a comforter or a blanket, should be sufficient for your purposes. You might even find a sheet set that will add some style and color to the room, although it should still be subtle.
Provide Storage Space
You want to provide any guests who stay in your guest bedroom with some storage and closet space. If you typically store your own items in the bedroom’s closet, you might want to think about storing them elsewhere to give your guests the space. Of course, much of this will depend on a number of factors, including who the guest is and how long he or she is staying. For example, if you’re hosting a family member for a day or two, then storage space may not matter. On the other hand, if you have an out-of-town guest who’s staying for a week or longer, you’ll want to provide them with ample storage space.
Decorating a guest bedroom can be fun. But when planning your décor, you need to keep in mind that even though the room is in your home, it’s other people who will be using it. Therefore, try to keep it on the simpler side, only adding your stylish touch here and there.
